A DESPERATE search operation has been launched after a four-year-old boy went lacking in a Co Mayo lake.

The kid entered the water whereas out on Lough Masks within the West of Eire at about 6.30pm on Monday night.

Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118 from Sligo was deployed to the scene.

The Coast Guard operation was being co-ordinated from Malin Head.

A garda spokesman mentioned: “A search operation involving An Garda Síochána, Coast Guard, Civil Defence, Lough Masks Water Rescue and native divers is underway on Lough Masks close to Toormakeady for a younger boy who went lacking whereas out on the water this night.

“The alarm was raised at roughly 6.30 pm and searches are ongoing.”
